Poem -

Can I read you what I've written

Can I read you what I've written

Can I read you what I’ve written
for I wrote it just for you
hopes and dreams and memories
and words you know are true

And as the night-time drifts away
I tell you; no, don’t go –
please stay!

The romance we engendered
when your eyes first reached mine
and the eyes I love to see when you say;
to us – over wine

And as our glasses clink and we send
cheers for what may lie ahead
I look to you – so wholesome now -
once no more than an empty room
and know sincerely
your flower blooms
and we both belong

Even as we pack and move
you touch – I hold – we kiss – embrace

And as our fingers interlace
you tell me how you feel

I will say to you; I do too
for now and all I hold in store -
two people in a world – enthralled.
filling what was once an empty space
making one from two
in this, a lover’s race.
