Courage

She lay upon her bed serenely
Her grip on life almost unseemly
A pretty scarf around her head
She smiled only looking ahead.
Gazing at the garden outside
Blossoming, It seemed with pride.
Her body weak but heart strong
Wanting to sing her favourite song
She would not relinquish the fight
Hope was to be her guide, not fright.
Her soul would soar as a bird in flight.
Her days were now numbered
Yet this was no time to slumber
She raised her fist to battle
Be nice to travel to Seattle.
She smiled despite the inner pain
Her spirit strong, would not wane
All around were sad and silent
She took a hand, smiled vibrant.
Machines ticked on unceasing
Eyes red, but ever perceiving
Tranquil she made her peace
Despite her own caprice.
Family gathered around sad
She smiled again, and said
It wont be so bad
I’ll close my eyes to rest
Knowing how I was blessed.
Her grip now failing and frail
Her once soft skin now,
Sunken and pale,
She whispered,
Be strong all my beloved.
Recall the joy and how we loved.
Have courage and be heartened.
Despite this final parting.
Finally, in a sanctity of silence
Her life’s breath left her body
To become someday,
Another Flanders Poppy.

Hello Marion, thank you for your kind comment, sadly I have had to do this twice and hold that outstreched hand and admire the courage.
