Poem -

Days of our lives.

I'm a frightened man with a worried heart,
too much on my mind where do I start,
another storm coming in,
tension in the streets, people are panicking,
little hearts are beating safe in their sleep,
but mothers and fathers will always weep.

Prosperous birds of liberty despised in a cage,
timid emotions and fragile feelings crying in rage,
social media activists stoking the fires,
be careful where you take a stand, might be a quagmire,
uptight people need to make a friend with Mary Jane,
keep your eyes on the horizon and the weather vane.

Mother said I should always care,
but father said things change always be aware.

People choose an invisible god instead of a human bond,
desirous of spiritual connection somewhere beyond,
worshiping a white man who died for a mothers temptation,
this principle of Christianity demands your submission,
the sanctimonious and pious glorify life on Sunday,
then dishonor the death of color on Monday.

Mother always said to love one another,
but father said not everyone is your brother.

Corporate capitalist's are shaping the "American Dream",
the rich get richer and the poor suffer and scream,
gold, oil and diamonds are the new gods,
economic Darwinism is unconcerned with survival odds,
building their empires on finite resources,
the earth will starve and suffocate when there's no more trees.

Mother said the best things in life are free,
but father said read the small print, its costly.

There's an orange man sat in an oval room,
people come and people go in his temple of doom,
he's sees millions attending his rallies,
but his ego is alienating peaceful allies,
jetting off to Mar-A-Largo to whack a ball,
careful where you strike, you might hit a wall.

Mother said leaders need time to grow,
but father said no master above, no slave below.

The shopping center has become a second home,
hiding from pain and misery under a starlit dome,
instant gratification to soothe a vacuous need,
no time to smell the roses in these days of speed,
new and shiny things to fill the widening void,
built with planned obsolescence and soon destroyed.

Mother said you can't always get what you want,
but father said stay humble and never flaunt.

Life does change and people become more crazy,
the futures not that bright, somewhat a little hazy,
when I was young and naive I truly did care,
but I'm older and wiser and filled with despair,
mother said we never fully understand,
and father said we never fully understand.
