Dirt Patch

Dirt Patch

Small patch of dirt,
In a perfect space.
With enough sun and water,
Sprouts all over the place.

A little patience,
Plenty of care.
Beautiful blooms erupt.
Everywhere.

Wild and blousy,
Bold and bright.
Not an inch left uncovered.
An incredible sight.

Bees came a buzzing,
Butterflies as well.
This perfect mini haven.
Where everything is swell.

Attempts made to destroy it.
But the stems were too strong.
So it continued to flourish.
Singing nature’s sweet song.

That day was different,
They knew where it was weak.
Smashed to smithereens.
The wreckage was bleak.

With no hope for recovery,
Laid a patch of dirt.
All the work and wonder ruined.
Left with misery and hurt.

The breeze offered comfort.
Cleared the mess and sprinkled seeds.
Anticipating new life.
Left disappointed at weeds.

Creeping and climbing,
Claiming the patch.
Now no longer a fight.
It was able to match.

Until, out of nowhere,
A huge blood red rose.
Twisting through the vines.
Adapting as it grows.

Robust and mighty.
Unafraid to be the only one.
Stood wonderfully proud, almost smiling.
With her face in the sun.
