Poem -

Distance

She says to come get her when I need her,

She says she's here to help me whenever I need it.

"I'm not far away," she says.

To think the living room is a barren desert and the bedroom a spring waterfall..

My thoughts drown me in the lake of my bed,

But my parched throat begs for something to feel.

The ten steps across the hall to get to her,

A journey that steals my breath from my lungs like I ran a marathon,

The words that must come from my mouth get sticky in my throat.

Then I open my eyes to see her

Sitting on the couch with a smile on her face.

She's almost so close to touch.

She's not far away at all.

But what if I am?
