A Drifter's Love

Give to me, this bottle in a brown crumbled bag, found upon the harmless ground
Let me dip, this slice of bread I found, in the dumpster of life itself, the river be my milk
For I am drifting near and far, but only have a nickel to my name, holes in my socks
And no where to go today, I may hitch a ride on a freight car, pass by my old pals, warming up, by a trash can fire
Later, my bed in the brush, I will count the stars in the sky, and dream a drifter's love, a lonely desire
In spite of it all, I still have feelings of lust, once I was a working soul, a blue collar at that
Now, I fall to sleep, I see the most beautiful figure, suddenly, my clothes undraped, a dove
Drops a note, I read the lines, they say, I do not want you for wealth, just to cuddle, as I sat
Reading more, the world around you, loves you, no matter you climb, or fail, believe
In the heaven's above, and my hand that touches your heart, may you be safe in your ventures
Though you may be weary, dirty, not clean, find shelter in your next stop, and find the sky and the trees, life that lives
Be free, but don't drift away, stay near, as the song in my heart, keeps calling your name, through the leaves
Harbor not, your silence of love, faith, and hope, let go, and dream your dream
A drifter's love, I will find you one autumn eve
As I believe, in you, your guardian angel awaits, as the leaves
Fall, so do you, and I will catch you, if only you believe
