Drowning

Drowning

Floating beneath the surface
Gazing upward as I sink
Pins of light like fireflies flashing
growing smaller as I blink
Falling further beneath the surface
still holding on to my breathe
looking downward toward the darkness
looking downward toward my death
exhaling my last breath of air
down hear in the abyss
at first the panic and struggle
but very quickly bliss
I'm strangely not afraid
and for a moment before I die
I feel perfectly peaceful
kind of like a divine high
Before they pull me from the water
a hand was pointing back
to the earth from above
and then it all turned black
Then with a gasp I caught my breathe
And I saw a man above me
He saved me from that destiny
And he saved me from the sea
pail and trembling lying there
my wits were all askew
but with sincerity in my eyes
I quietly said, "Thank you"
