Dusk Takes Hold

As the rain begins to fade into the mystic horizon, the green grasses quench their thirst, to drink and indulge, in a wet treasure
The smell of the earth rises, while the earth worms crawl upward to enjoy the cool air, one, two, three hundred, or more, so many
The sky becomes a gray blue hue, with tiny hidden stars, dusk takes hold, like an old woman's warmth of a shawl
You can hear the chirping of crickets, near and far, singing a serenade, they jump for the plunge
While heavy drops are still falling, from leaves of tall pin oak trees, each leaf catching the next, like acrobats
The locust practice their ensemble of vocals, very carefully, they mimic each line, making it exact, with no mistakes
Peace, and serenity, in the evening calm, the circle of life, the soothing notes of natures harmonious carousel ride, inhabits
As dusk takes hold, the turtles swim to bed, as the bull frogs croak a bedtime story, awaiting a midnight snack to pass by
The evening creatures begin to rest, while the last of the rain drops, drip from tree limbs, falling upon the silence of the lakes, so shy
As dusk takes hold, so does the restful engagement of two lovers, side by side, in a silhouette of beauty, and pleasure
