Ethereal Spirit

Ethereal Spirit

Luminous moon
How you settle your watchful eye upon our earthly mantle
Where a strident tune splinters the night air
From an oily black knight
Perched, poised upon a withered bough

Like a spectral guardian it sweeps a solicitous gaze,
from observant obsidian pools
It croons at your lustrous canopy of illuminated chalky radiance
Settles its mind within the dusky chimes
Which seep between the shadows, and your lunar lantern

For it has journeyed through earthly and other worldly labyrinths
To rest its heavy wings on the limbs of this old, wilted tree
There within the sombre tones of hooting owls and rustling leaves,
breaths a nocturnal mantra

It reverberates inside our astute feathered friend
With a shrill call
Silence momentarily lingers

Crow, the bringer of vitality
Shrouded in deep charcoal hues
The very shades which hold you- bewitching moon

This ethereal winged spirit sinks its essence into natures bosom
And once again
life spills its loving grace
So this old tree can blossom

Thank you lovely, for leaving such beautiful words of encouragement. I keep looking at my writing of late and doubting myself. I write and then don’t post it. I would love to see your art work one day. There is something so relaxing about painting. It calms my mind. Thanks for reading and always being so supportive of me. Love and hugs 💗xoxo

An absolutely STUNNING piece of poetic presence draped over an artistic masterpiece.....The artwork in the picture coupled with the words you have in accompaniment........are a sublime realization.....or manifestation......of the whole of the identity of this VERY Poe-esque piece of excellence......and to my mind ~ you have ARRIVED.......make it your own dear poet sister!!......your voicing and identity are standing at the threshold of something great!!.......just keep writing & reading GWEN......the world is your oyster!!......I am your cyber- friend and ever admirer!!......T xo  : )

Thank you Tony for always leaving me such words of encouragement. I must say I look at this poem and just feel something is either lacking or missing in my words. I don’t know why.

You have given me so much confidence over my time here at Cosmo. Something I have never felt, so I can’t thank you enough for that. You are a fabulous presence here. Thank you for inspiring me to push myself. Thank you for always being such a wonderful friend. Love and hugs

I love the fluidity of these lines, leading to Wise Crow, waiting in the night, when meaning comes in sleep. Moon, by dreams, feeds this process, I always find (except when the full moon is out - I must have a werewolf somewhere among my ancestors🤣🐺). Love your art too, so peaceful. Great write, indeed

Ah well, seeing as you yourself comment extensively, it would only be right to do the same. And I enjoy it, using the old university training (after all, I did English literature at Amsterdam University from 1982 till 1988). It is a pleasure to do so. For the coming few weeks I will be out of the Cosmo universe for the yearly holiday, I will miss it...

Hi Gwen, I'm back as I promised, and what can i say, simply a fantastic and heavy hitting write. I think other people have quoted awesomely from poem, but I just wanted to say I love how everthing just seems to build your piece further. I think I enjoyed this line the most

reverberates inside our astute feathered friend
With a shrill call
Silence momentarily lingers

gives the reader a real taste of the feelings within this write, which is consistent throughout. I know my feedback is kinda nonsense lol. I'm sorry Gwen. Its 4:30 here. Couldn't get back to sleep XD

Gwen just a tad or two late joining the party, but after reading it was well worth the wait.
For it's a delight in reading your poetry and pure poetry at that, your poem never misses a beat or veers away from its flow or thematic content.
Superb to read and then think over and you make it look so easy and deliver in poetry spades.
A poem of emotion that stands and calls out to all. Superb and enthralling and involving, involving as in one and all can relate to.
Full honours and respectfully and deservingly bestowed my friend.

Hello Shaun :)
never need to apologise for lateness my friend. Life is moving us all forward. I am just pleased to find you popped by. For you read and share your thoughts so beautifully. Making posting poems all the more worth while. For it is the interaction of sharing on Cosmo that makes poetry all the more enjoyable. So thank you for again reading my work, leaving your fabulous thoughts and for being such a consistent, wonderful poet and participator here on Cosmo. It means so much to all of us x
