THE EVERLASTING JOYS OF SUMMER NIGHTS

It's a beautiful summer night, there's a gentle breeze upon us

the leaves rustle softly on the trees

the smell of fresh cut grass being nurtured by sprinklers

is appealing my senses this evening

the distinctive sound, of humming birds busy collecting nector

can faintly be heard in the background

as we gaze at the sky, an aerial display catches our eyes

shooting stars performing brilliantly tonight

first one, then another, close your eyes, make a wish

did it come to be.....I certainly hope this one's not missed

I smell the aroma of a camp fire, somewhere near by

probably two lovers, on a blanket, cuddled in bliss

I hear the crackling of the fire, thinking back to the cabin

on the mountains, in the winter, when we first kissed

the joyful sound of children, playing hide and go seek

such joy, how their laughter seems to bring instant smiles

no car alarms, or horns, no sirens going off tonight

I swear it hasn't been this peaceful in a long time

there's an era of love upon us this summer night

the first of many we will have the pleasure of knowing

summer love, summer passion, summer excitement

these beautiful warm summer nights we'll eternally be enjoying
