Extinguished

Extinguished

I
never needed you, but I wanted to.

When
breathing was easy, we were on cloud nine for a limited time.

Things
fell through, like me relying on you.

If
you were proud, you never said it aloud.

I
ached for you once and then I ached because of you.

Bound
and undone our life together was fun,                                            but
mostly it was not.

The
bad so outweighed the good.

You
never understood me, you never could.

You
walked away, like I expected -- To be rejected.

I
didn’t ask you stay, we both know it’s better that way.

We both
felt the strain.

It
was always the same game.

There
was nothing to gain, just fighting because we could.

I don’t
need you anymore.

You never
promised me anything but I still feel the sting of the flame extinguishing as
you walk out the door.
