Poem -

Fire

Adults hollering,

children shrieking,

I’m screaming.

My lungs ache from gasping for clean air.

My body is scorching hot.

Flames lick my feet.

Everything I see,

is engulfed in flames,

furniture,

being eaten away by the sunset colored substance.

Slowly,

painfully

I feel the life evacuating from me.

I only have a few more minutes left.

Without warning,

the floor gives away underneath me.

Now it’s only a matter of seconds,

before my body smacks the burning floor below me.

There is pain,

lots of pain.

The smell of smoke plugs my nostrils,

My skin is burnt to a crisp.

I would scream out in pain,

but there’s nothing left.

There is darkness.

I bolt upright.

A few seconds ago,

I was hurtling to certain death.

My palms and forehead are drenched in sweat.

I force my eyes to look around.

I can just make out the shape of my desk and shelves.

All alone in my room,

dark and quiet.

Scared out of my skin,

in a dream,

only a dream.

Unless,

I was dreaming of the future.
