Tide Wraith

Tide Wraith

My hand dipped slowly
Into murky waters
Praying for them to take me
Sirens pulling me under
And seaweed choking out my last breath
As it does in the darkness

Icy skin
And eyes open
Cruel fate
Making me keep watch
Even as I achieve
That which I begged for

My spirit floats, restless
With nothing left to soothe
My grave needs no marker
The songs that bubble up, and out of my haunted memory
Will be my epitaph
There shall be no rest, and certainly no peace

I grew a thousand spirits in life
That clung to me and clawed
Weighed me down into these depths
And now they are free to speak
And to devour
And to sing with me in the night
Harmonies carried on the tide
They will not let me sleep
