Home

Open the door
Step out again
Put up an umbrella
'Gainst the driving rain
Pick up my small bag
Turn on my phone
Catch the first bus
To the place I call home.

Take out my key
Open the door
Gather the dusty post from the floor
Put on the kettle
Sit down on a chair
Do not dwell on the fact
I'm the only one there.

With age comes wisdom
Time marches on
A click of the fingers
And then we are gone
Home is where the heart is
And I cry silently
Longing to be home
With my family.
