I Named Her "Shey"

I Named Her "Shey"

Africa was the country I wanted to stay,

the perfect place for a quiet getaway.

When I arrived I was given a box,

along with a key that undid the locks.

As I opened it up and looked deep inside,

this tiny thing had it's arms open wide.

I picked her up and without a doubt,

this monkey gave me the sweetest pout.

The look on her face as she stared back at me,

was the cutest thing that you ever did see.

I placed her down gently beside my bag,

and created a nappy with a rag I had.

Only a few seconds was all that it took,

as I calmly replied, "now don't be a sook."

I decided right then that I'd call her "Shay,"

and said to the man, "she can certainly stay."

He had passed her on, as a gift to me,

and had kindly said, "she's a child times three."

The moment he left she knew just what to do,

as she moved real fast like a bush kangaroo.

Into my bag she pulled out all of my things,

along with a set of my two diamond rings.

She bounced off the walls and scurried around,

her feet barely even touching the ground.

Before I could blink she had taken control,

I wasn't prepared for this mothering role.

But then I remembered this quote that I knew,

and out came the words, "monkey see monkey do."

As quick as a wink she changed just like that,

putting the rings straight back in the hat.

She followed me out as I climbed up a tree,

and mimicked my actions right down to a T.
