I WAS THE CHILD

I was the child
Looking up to you
I searched for my worth
In your eyes, it's true
You, who I trusted
Who I loved with my heart
Your actions told me I'm worthless
As I crumbled apart
I felt like a nothing
Like something used and discarded
You made me feel worthless
Traumatized, guarded
I'm trying my hardest to undo
The damage done by you
But tell me; How do I learn to love
If hate was all I knew
You're there in the past, in my memories
You're there, around every turn
While, I keep trying to love myself
You've made love, a hard thing to learn
I was the child, looking up to you
But now, I look up to me
It's hard, but I'm learning to love myself
To break away from my past and be free
