Icelandia Broke Me Of The Habit
In late Fall of 1957, they opened an ice-skating rink;
When we heard about it’s coming, we all were tickled pink!
You could rent a pair of ice skates, if you didn’t have your own;
It had a bonfire and hot chocolate, their business quickly grown!
.
They had only six months to make it, October through March at best;
But the place was always crowded, and easily passed the test!
Parents would throw parties, for their children’s birthdays there;
With hot dogs, drinks and burgers, the delicious bill of fare!
.
I became a very good skater, but I also was a clown;
One night when I was showing off, I off-balance fell hard down!
I landed atop my ankle, it swelled to twice its size;
I phoned my Mom to come and get me, with teardrops in my eyes!
.
She took me to the hospital, and they found a little break;
I had to have a cast put on, which unhappy did me make!
They took it off in April, I never went back again;
I decided broken bones were no fun, such torture while on the mend!
.
.
Skated for two years
Till the ice cracked me up
Then no more bad jokes
