Poem -

Janies needles

It was raining and beginning to get dark,
the waif-like pale faced woman stood in the shadows,
back against the wall;Ā
twitching, shaking,
as if continually retching ,
her i'll fitting clothes hung from her skinny frame,
dirty,smelly rags,torn,
like an old thick blanket of skin full of fleas;
trying to rid itself of her body.
she must have been about nineteenĀ
and her mouth was held open mournfully;Ā
as if she was trying to say something but couldn't ,
then she opened her eyes,huge eyes,
beautiful blue,
revealing two rusty hypodermic needles,
sunk into deep pink pricked sized black pupils,
they were filled with a putrid yellowy substance with orange bits in,
primed and ready to fire,
she raised her hand and took aim,
a grubby thumb poised ready to administer the dose,
then I saw her arm,
there was a large open wound running from the wrist right up to the elbow joint,
arteries and muscles were exposed,
throbbing with every heartbeat;
but it wasn't blood being pumped through the veins,
it was pure shit.
