Knowing a Friend

A Friend is a person, who will stand by your side,

where in all types of weather, they will always reside.

A Friend you can turn to, when the going gets rough,

to shoulder your burden, when you’ve had enough.

A Friend you can depend on, who will encourage and give hope,

when you’re feeling dejected, and languishing to mope.

A Friend is that person, who would happily share,

their food, and their purse, are yours should you care.

A Friend you can call upon, any hour of the day,

their door is always open, should you ever want to stay.

A Friend, you can trust, who will never repeat a word,

of a secret you narrate, however absurd.

A Friend is a person, who will never take offence,

at a remark that is spoken, that is said with no difference

The character of a Friend is not impossible to find,

it’s just another human being, who is seeking the same kind.

The heart of a Friend will always be strong,

and will always see right, where others see wrong.

A Friend is that person, who has your interest at heart,

they will tread the same path, unless you ask them to part.

The qualities of a Friend are too numerous to mention,

which I could detail all day, until we both find redemption.

If, and when, you discover this Friend,

take them into your heart, and allow them to depend.

Hold on real tight and allow their character to stain,

because a Friend is for life, and they won’t come again.
