Let the Stranger Into Your Heart
Our hearts beat our lungs breathe our eyes cry and our tears weep
our blood bleeds
Our hands touch our feet walk our  lips speak
We must be the same in so many ways
though on the outside we show signs of fear
Not willing to get to know another human being
Despite their race it’s the unknown makes us ignorant to truth and facts we have never shared before makes us unaware
We spoke for the first time we didn’t hesitate
It seemed so easy just to be free and not have to be anythingÂ
just being in the moment being in the same placeÂ
As different as we are our skin our faith our culture
Worlds apart but our eyes would meet and we seen beyond
all differences  there was hope and love and respect and desire
to share our dreams share our experiences share our secretsÂ
finding the stranger was only outside and the language to learn
that to know someone is to care about their world because our worlds are much the same and yet so different
only to let the stranger in our hearts and our minds will meet
and together we shall no longer be strangers
for we shall find we are the same in our prideÂ
hate shall never know but love shall find a way to
let the stranger into your heart

I find this not just a poem about love but an eloquent plea for peace and understanding. Basically saying that there is more that unites us than divides us. The line for me that the poem hinges on is "it seemed so easy just to be free and not have to be anything." Would that we could be that way. Thank you for writing and sharing.Â
