Life Takes More.....

Life Takes More.....

There’s cigarette ash on the pillow,
An empty tea cup sitting on the chair,
He’s been looking round for over half an hour
But he can’t seem to find his old heart anywhere.

And where is he? The room it looks familiar,
But he can’t seem to recognise a thing.
And where is she? He spends his time just sitting round,
Hoping that the telephone will ring.

There’s dishes in the sink, the radio plays on
But he doesn’t care, he barely hears a thing
And he whispers, occasionally to himself,
It reminds him of the way she used to sing

And with each new day, he is always there,
Standing with a cigarette and cup of tea outside;
He remembers, how he used to stroke her hair,
Recalls a happiness that he himself denied

Don’t waste your time on him, there’s nothing there on offer,
A blank space where his old life used to live.
See him stare through you, because he is only seeing
That life always takes more than it will ever give
Than it will ever give.
