Looking Up

Looking Up

Gazing toward the dark night sky,
Scanning the heavens but don't know why?
The full moon is shining and so extra bright,
Eyes following a passing satellite.

Do you think of existance of alien life,
Beings there maybe but hiding out of sight,
Waiting for us to evolve and to get smart,
Then our first contact will finally start.

Who's to say that they will be our friends,
Research or attack which craft do they send?
Heard us transmitting from probes far away,
A few light years covered, travelled in a day.

And when they come down and all is good,
No technology for us or do you think they should?
What will we do with interstellar travel,
Will answers be sought, the universe unravel?

I'd like to think that discovery is sought,
And nothing is mined and nothing is bought,
Don't ruin the verse like we've ruined this place,
And don't leave our stinking footprint in Outer Space.

Thanks Cherie for your kind words, when we get too far advanced, will we plunder the universe's riches?
