Crooked Smiles
Your crayons do no justice
To the rainbow
you seek to capture
The nightingale cameĀ
and stole any radiance
you once possessedĀ
It made itself a nestĀ
from your lungsĀ
That once sungĀ
of zealous timesĀ
Now all you do is cry
between crooked smilesĀ
That sit like fools goldĀ
on a tempered faceĀ
of hardened timeĀ
Your mind splitĀ
Between the darkĀ
and the divine

Many thanks greg for the read and pin my friend. I hope you are well x
Just like fool's gold,,,,,, fake . Just doesn't have that shine or same feeling. A crooked smile seems to be an acquaintance of us all at some point, is it a sign of being selfless ? I mean we know truly how we feel and it's not real,,,, Really good comparisons here with unrelating variables but visually appealing examples. The last line sums it up perfectly, the cause behind the teetering of genuine and forcefulness.... Always linking to a thought or feeling.Ā
Rob you always delve deeply when you comment on poetry. Which always makes your visits a special treat for the writer. Yes I guess at times itās a selfless act maybe ? We tend to try and protect ourselves and others from the grim reality of life. Is that healthy though ? I donāt know. Maybe sometimes...your comment definitely got me thinking which I always appreciate :)Ā
