Lotus

I wasn't always this way
I used to be like a lotus flower
bold, beautiful, untouched
grown deeply in muddy waters 
far, far away from any sun 
I was picked and left in the hands of those who had
no intentions of keeping me
I used to shine after storms
I used to emit a rainbow after rain
radiance of sunlight and hopefulness were present long before I met you
now it's too late 
I can never be the same
