Many Miles I Have Traveled

Many Miles I Have Traveled

The native blood runs through me, my feet and legs have traveled far

My horse has been my ride, my canoe has felt the waters deep

Many miles in which I breathed the air, now too much is bare, no land to see

It is covered with buildings, with factories, with highways, lost in the wind

Though I feel my heart pound, like the chanting voices in the nights valleys

Where I am with my people, my life is not over, it longs to live in spirit

The painted horse gallops to me, and I ride into the pastures, where the buffalo show me

The way to the secret path of the Cherokee, the fire is still burning high

Many miles I have traveled, and I will not stop until my lungs become the dust of the earth

The flames of our magic, the burning of our souls, will be filled with my desire
