Moiraeen's First Voyage

To America

The little one had tears in her eyes
Her nose was red and sniffly
Blonde hair in beautiful curls
Wearing a little red coat her Mam had sewn
The ship was huge to a tot of four
Hanging on to her PaPa's hand
As if a drowning man
Her tall father sun burned and weary
Was making sure all the riggings were safe and sails
Mended
He was the Captain's mate as such he had responsibility
This child with her mother gone
She was his last real link to kin
Her name was Moiraeen
McNamara
She was a hardy little lass he
Thought
AYE she has no choice a ship due to sail for America
Where her mother's family lived
He was to take her to New York why fifth avenue
No less
The little child rubbed her eyes with a tired child sound
And found a stack of burlap
Bags and sat down and fell
Asleep
The ship was sailing when she awoke and the deck tossed and turned
Where was Da she looked
And looked
And saw his happy grin !
Moira child there you are I looked for you my love
Where were you when we set sail
Tears ran down his weathered
face
She squealed with glee  as she got her tea
And a starry sugar cookie
She reached up to pay his face
And held up sweet prize
Come on Daddy eat it up
So you can stay big and strong
So you can stay big and strong
