Movies: an Underapreciated Gift

How many times have we looked up,

wide eyed and curious,

at the silver screen?

We grew up with them,

the images.

of heroes and villains alike

of action stars and summer romances

of fleeing boys and starlit girls

of war campaigns and witches

of Romeos and Juliets

of clever cops and ruthless killers

of space and yearning missions

The movies

They're all different,

and yet,

they're all the same.

In the fact that they take us on a journey.

A place among the stars.

They help us escape,

and hold our greedy hands,

and caress our wondering minds,

feeding us the stories that we so desperately crave.

For we want nothing more than to travel

to this exotic place of movies.

So we look up,

like the loyal addicts we are,

and pretend.

We forget about the hardships,

the struggles,

the broken souls,

and instead

step away from reality.

At least for a little while.
