My Melody

My little Melody, sweet as a peach,Ā
Although she is young, there is so much she can teach.
Like to see the small things, along the way,
And notice what's special, in everyday.
To feel such compassion, for the poor butterfly,
Who's caught in a web, and going to die.
To be sad when the flowers, wilt in the fall,
And yet somehow, see the joy in it all.
To feel such surprise, at each little thing,
Like when all those flowers, come back in the spring.
TheĀ colourĀ of leaves, the sound a frog makes,
All of these things, for granted we take.
But I have a Melody, for all of you,
To make you ask why, the sky is so blue?
The ocean so green, the sunset so gold,
Why I have you, to love and to hold?
You show me the joys, of being alive,
Even though you are only five.

You may house their bodies but not their souls,
For their souls dwell in the house of tomorrow,Ā
which you cannot visit, not even in your dreams.
You may strive to be like them,Ā
but seek not to make them like you.
For life goes not backward nor tarries with yesterday.
-Kahlil Gibran
