My Momma is a Spider

My Momma is a Spider

My Momma is a spider
because she spun her own web
    with money she didn't need
    and love she never had.
Every sleepless waking she drowns in her own tears
    and calls it morning dew.
My Momma is a spider
because she used to be a butterfly
until my Daddy cut her glassy wings.
    Oh how she cried.
My Momma is a spider
because she ate him in revenge,
    guzzled his meat down
and saved some for her nest.
My Momma is a spider
because every night she weaves silk
until her eight legs collapse from exhaustion,
and her fingers start to wilt.
My Momma is a spider
    because she has eight worrisome eyes;
six to keep open if the other two sleep at night.
You might’ve noticed they’re never quite alive.
My Momma is a spider
because she is trapped in her own web,
and I don't know what to do to help.
