My Past Only Kinda Haunts Me

My Past Only Kinda Haunts Me

My mind drawing a blank

My feelings incomprehensible

My body starting to ache

My legs are now quivering

And my flesh beginng to ache

I feel my whole self tensing

My brain readying me

Because my vision found nothing in your cold dark features

I think the emptiness I have foundĀ

Is much worse than your yelling

Much sicker than glee

More frightening than your fury

And so my mind now draws these blanks

To protect me from my past

Because I can still vividly recall

Everything

From the terror I felt

To the smell of my burning flesh

The dryness of my mouth

And the swishing sound

As he reared back and swung

My mind starts to blur

And all I remember after thatĀ

Is the pain of the collision

Of flesh on flesh

And my tears running down my faceĀ

As I fell to the ground
