Poem -

No Prophet Am I!

To Hear the Voice of God

No Prophet Am I!

Oh, the torment,
And ridicule;
To claim that I
Can hear your voice.

That you have
Embodied me:
Mind, body, heart,
And soul.

Oh Lord,
My God:
God of my ancestors.

Did I ask for this?
Maybe so...
Yet you won’t let go.

To live without you
Was an emptiness
Of woes.

Yet to live with you,
And no one believing me,
Be an abysmal living.

What do you want of me?
No warrior am I,
No example am I,
No prophet am I!

Am I being tested?
For which I,
Will surely fail.

Nevertheless,
Clearly your presence
Be known to me.

Be weary with my heart,
Oh God,
And do not lead it astray.
