Old Golgotha's Lonely Hill

The town buzzed with the news that day
The new prophet was to walk down Calvary's way
For treason He'd be crucified
This left his followers mortified
It would have broke a cold man's heart to see
The Savior stumble beneath that rugged tree
With every labored step his strength regressed
The Savior of us all, in pain and oppressed
How pitiful He looked that day
Walking up Calvary's lonely way
With thorns of hate, peircing His preacious brow
He chose to walk to His death, even for the proud
And there they stretched Him wide
And hammered a rusty nail into his hand
His feet bled from the excrutiating sting
They stripped Him from his clothes
And stripped Him from His pride
And as if that was not enough
A Roman soldier still rammed a spear into His side
What a cruel and undeserved death
Of a man that still showed forgiveness with His last breath
He could speak those soldiers out of existence
Yet He hung there in agony as they gambled beneath His feet
He could cause water to gush out of the hollow of that tree
But yet he became so humble, He uttered "I thirst"
What manner of man was this?
Who forgave, instead of cursed
A King who bled and died upon the very tree
That He created by the power of His own word
What the crowd did not know that day
Was that it wasn't just a mere criminal who died
Crucified on a wooden cross
It wasn't all that great a loss
Because His mission was to set them free
To open the sinners eyes to see
So with evey lash, across His naked back
His glorious saving light, broke the sordid black
For death could not hold the King down
He who spoke the heavens into existence
And wore the crown
So no matter how unloved and unwanted you feel
Remember that a King walked to His death for you

A humbling story well told Eden. Â There were parts that gave me tingles, I'm not of religious faith but you conveyed it very well, very moving in places. Â Nicely written, a vote from me:)
