Olivia

Olivia

What did Olivia see when she looked in the mirror?
She saw a broken girl trying to live
She saw the bastard kid that her drunken 'father' would say,
"You were a mistake that's it"
Foreigner to the world
She was the product of a rape victim

The mirror shattered her into pieces when she would look at it
Because staring back at her was the biggest reminder of a memory
Her mother was trying so hard to forget
Post
Traumatic
Stress
Disorder
That's what her mother was diagnosed with
And with therapy, her mother had to deal with the harsh reality of it

Her mother had a responsibility placed in her hands
By a man that didn't think twice about it
His guilty pleasures took over him
That's why her screams of "NO" fell on deaf ears
25 years young
The traumatic experience left her devastated
Her beautiful temple
Disfigured
By a man that pulled up his trousers to only walk away and carry on living

Olivia blames herself every day because of it
Her father, her mother's husband
Would make her feel bad that she was born through this
Her mother wanted an abortion
But she was too far gone
For the process to begin
So the only 'father' that Olivia had ever known
Would take his anger out on her
Because she's the closest person to the man, who damaged the one thing a husband owns

When Olivia looked in the mirror for the second time
She looked past her own figure to look behind
Straight at her mother
Now 41 years old
A single parent to Olivia
Her mother is a survivor with a survivor story to be told

Olivia can't look in the mirror
Because she saw a girl fighting
Fighting to hold back tears
These were tears her mother vowed to wipe away
Olivia saw a girl with written insults on her body
Yet her mother was ready to erase it all, no matter how long it takes
Olivia couldn't bear to look at her scar of humiliation
But her mother was ready to put a smile on her face
When she looked in the mirror
Olivia saw the kiss
The one kiss her mother gave her
To let her know she's just as much as a victim as her mother is
But they will get through it

Olivia's mother asked her to look in the mirror one last time again,
She asked her, "what do you see when you look in the mirror?"
Her mother answered for her,
" I see a girl with a bright future
A girl that should be ready for the world to see her
You were never a mistake to me Olivia
You were just sent to me the wrong way
It was hard at the beginning knowing you were growing inside of me
But you don't understand you're my strength
And without you, I can't live another day
Olivia forget the last 16 years
Let's start again
Look in the mirror
Hold your head high
Like your mother
Never ever be shy to live this life
You're MY beautiful daughter
And I have got you till I die"
