On Wishing

On Wishing

Wishes are powerful things.

You have to be careful with them —
they can bite.

It's like casting a spell,
making a wish,
it's serious business —
not just a matter of finding a star,
or throwing a coin into a drop of water.

Oh no.

Wishes need a clear mind,
the proper preparation
and firm handling
if they are to be truly successful
(which they hardly ever are).

Wishes, you see,
are granted with a snag —
and it's a bitch of one usually.
It all boils down to Yin and Yang,
apparently.

Duality
Contrary forces
Upsides and downsides

Call it what you will
but the universe is very clear on such things —

No one gets something for nothing.

Good god...it's like you got in my brain...lol. You have written really powerful words here Tina and they are so true..You may not believe this but it's been troubling me greatly recently that something I wished for...and came true...is not as wonderful as I thought it would be lol. I agree that everything needs a lot of work that maybe we don't consider when we 'put it out there'
Anyway ...enough about me but bloody hell..I came on and there it was...my thoughts written in words by you!!! Truly excellent write my friend xx

Wow, Marion! Really?  How about that!  Yes, wishes need to be balanced  as everything does. I was always told, "Be careful what you wish for ‐— wishes have a habit of coming true." And I always thought, Really? Great! Whats not to lose! But, actually, there could be a lot to lose. Wishes do come true, but there's always, always a price to pay.

Glad you like the poem. I hope that whatever gods may be are kind to you and not so mean with their granting of wishes xx

this is so cool .. and since I am a firm believer in the unity of opposites that you so deftly allude to here, I sure aint gonna argue over the airwaves like this .. but wish we could agree face to face .. x

🤣 Hi Neville, it's interesting isn't it? The other sort of science!  These sorts of things intrigue me.

Thankyou, as always, for popping by and reading I really appreciate it xx

I had a few wishes that came through in my life..
that I wished did not happened..
nevertheless …  I have learned and grown from that as well.
that’s my take from your poem.
thanks for sharing.

Hi Wilford!  I agree, life is a journey of a lesson! I know bad things are not nice but I do believe that they make us grow as a person. If everything was hunky dory all the time we would be happy to stay in that place. You have definitely got to be careful with what you wish for though!

Thank you for reading, I do soooo appreciate it. Many thanks 😊 x

Hello Being Me...

Definitely need to to be very specific with them...

Becareful what you wish you might get things you don't want...

No one would...

If they do they might be someone to keep a distance from...

It all depends right?

Great write!

Thank you for sharing...

Hi Sparrowsong! Specific is key! We don't want to end up with something we never wanted.  Thankyou so much for reading, I'm glad you liked the little write.  Your comment is fabulous x

Brilliant Tina, it’s a precarious road when we tread along those wishes and dreams.  The universe will always seek balance, which can back fire in your face if you don’t strategically map out for certain what you want to happen. Definitely not to be taken lightly.

“Duality
Contrary forces
Upsides and downsides”

really loved these lines. It’s a topsy turvy existence :)

love your pen x

Tina just love and appreciate the way you take something so simple like a wish and turn things around.
Or turn it on its head and to magically behold to any reader your rapt originality mirrored with unique writing.
Great writing and thought I read all your poems but was lucky to discover and unearth this hidden gem.
Good luck on any book ventures and thanks for writing how you do and do so, so well and for being you! x.

when i click to read your poems, I am never sure what emotions or notions will arise in the reading, what style i will find, will i be reminded of wordsworth, shelly, or d thomas, dickinson, paz or cummings? Studs Terkel would have been good at reciting this one out loud. anyway, I always find you are true and one of a kind.

Hi Mark. It all depends in the mood I am in at the time of writing!  Somethings write themselves, though.  Thanks for your reading and taking time ot comment. Much appreciated x

i want to be clear, your poems are not derivative of the poets I mentioned. i was noting the range and clarity of the themes, the art and craft of it all, the special qualities that identifies them as yours, alone.
