One Night Too Many

One Night Too Many

It all happened one night, I was coming back from far,
Total pitch blackness, no streetlights near the car,
I went down hill fast and up the other side,
A song on the radio, that almost made my cry.

On the hill in front of me, blinding lights hurt my eyes,
There I saw a UFO, in plain view to my surprise,
I hit the brakes initially but I did not feel scared,
I then continued to keep going, as if I didn't care.

I parked a few metres away so close that I could see,
A very familiar figure, waving calling me,
With unmistakeable features, and blonde hair it couldn't be another,
As I walked closer to the being, it turned out to be my mother.

My logic had kicked in right now, was I drunk and confused,
I quickly checked my sobriety, and wondered if i'd used,
All the answers to that was maybe, how is this made so,
I remember my mother dying, all those years ago.

Was this UFO that I see, full of angels from the heaven,
Then more figures came out that I knew, I just counted seven,
Where they here to take me away, I wondered if I died,
I was wondering what I saw right now, did my eyes just lie?

My mother never spoke direct, I could hear her calming thoughts,
She knew that I was feeling down, and had problems of sorts,
I asked her why she had to die, why was she taken away,
Why wasn't she there to comfort me, long before today.

She explained to me that fate intervenes, and these things just are,
She told me not to worry so much, as she led me to my car,
I am here just now waiting for you, you will be here in just a bit,
As I watched myself from the outside driving, and the big tree that I just hit.

I watched myself project out of my seat, through the windscreen onto the hood,
And hurled full speed into the tree, I was banged up quite good, Β Β
I saw the spark in leaking fuel, which caused an engine fire,
The flames cooked my body well, like I was laying on a funeral pyre.

"Come with me my darling, you are no longer needed here",
"But what about my wife and daughter", I said as I shed a tear,
"They will be in pain for quite a while, but they never will forget",
You drank and drove your automobile, a lasting mistake, a regret.
