Out of Place

It's 4am and sleep alludes me
Peace alludes me
The demons encircle like vultures penetrating my soul with their eyes.
Their breath lurks under my skin;
a blanket of velvet like molton lava
that sears my bones,
that crack with the heat.
I know what they want,
it's what they always want;
to dance, to swirl;
their cigarette smoke
intoxicating my mind.
I sit at the edge of life,
my feet dangling over the edge.
If only I could sleep,
I'd be somewhere with you.
Anywhere but here.
Some stars don't belong in heaven
Some are out of place,
like butterflies on the moon,
like fireflies in the abyss.
Beautiful but untouchable.
you bleed light.
Please let me sleep
Let the drapes that end the play;
that end the dance;
close
If you are just a dream
then let me sleep
For it is the last place
that you fly.
