Passages In Ink

Being in love with you
Feels like I’ve been played
like a fool.
The desperation of hanging on
to something that is
long since gone.
Questioning all that I am
and once was
seems to be the cause.
Disappearing beneath
the quick sand of lies
with each fleeting look
into your eyes.
Confiding in my soul
of the love you stole.
A love bent and twisted
to the brink
as I write
these passages in ink.
Every word you say is formed
with a disguise.
Surely your words will lead
to my demise.
I have relinquish my earthly life
to you
Knowing my remaining years
are few.
Does it even matter
after all this time?
From the beginning I wondered
if you could ever be mine.
Now like shadows in a dim light
my dreams have become slight
Though my love for you still reins
it exists in levels of pain.
Remorse for the choices
I’ve made
comes to me in bundles
to be weighed.
It signifies what remains
of a heart bound in chains.

Thank you soo very much for the read and lovely comment, Debs.
Greatly appreciated :)
This goes right to the heart of anyone who has ever loved - which is to say, everyone, practically. You've written another wonderfully lyrical ballad. Like all lovely ballads, your verses evoke passion, beauty, and melancholy. Through it all, though, Shakespeare's truth remains. "It is better to have loved and lost than never to have loved at all."
Thank you soo very much.
I love the wording you used to describe what you got out of this piece.
It is true. "It is better to have loved and lost than never to have loved at all."
Your time is greatly appreciated. <3
