Poem -

Passing sand

The first time I saw you and held you so tight

Etched in my mind like a beautiful painting

For months unwilling to leave your sight

Vowing to protect you from this cruel worlds tainting

Any pain you felt in turn cut me to the core

The tears you cried became mine to share

A feeling of love never so strongly felt before

For your safety I still say a daily prayer

You always hear how they grow up so fast

One day you turn around and their grown

It depresses me that these times won't last

Although excited for what you'll become on your own

Lord this sands passing quickly! I cannot contain!

I need to hear their laughter out on the lawn!

How can we make these joyous times remain?

It's far too soon for them to be gone

For one has already taken flight from the nest

Sadly the other likely will soon follow

I fear my heart slowly escaping my chest

Leaving me broken, desperate and hollow

Too often my parenting has fallen short

I wasn't always there when I was most needed

But I'm here,  have you need of any support

Though surely some advice goes unheeded

I'll cherish the memories until the day my mind fails

Your forever my baby girls, no matter your age

May favorable winds forever fill your sails

On to your next chapter, together we turn a page
