Putting my foot in it (again)

Putting my foot in it (again)

Sometimes when I've put my foot in it

And realise I've said something wrong and think…”Oh blast”

And hope the offence caused doesn’t last

And think:  This isn’t the first time I’ve said something wrong.

Saying “Sorry” seems to be my song.

Something I’ve said:   an opinion or words

Which I didn’t realise could be overheard…

Or said something, or stated a point of view

Which I didn’t realise could hurt others and cause me rue:

And then I hang my head in shame

Thinking I’ve hurt people’s feelings and caused them pain

That they’ve taken offence at what I’ve said or meant

And then I have to try then to repent,

As others try to calm the situation

I realise then what I need is maturation

Then I’ll consider what I say before I say it

And then won’t cause offence and then regret it.
