Race of Life

I see people rushing
And fighting every day
Focusing only
On the bills they have to pay

Trying to get 'one up'
On their fellow man
Pushing in a queue
Tailgating in a van

Bought into the notion
To do everything at pace
Convinced that's the definition
Of the term 'human race'

We are taught to think this way
And perpetuate the lies
We are blind to the beauty
That's right before our eyes

The blue of sky, green of grass
The horizon over there
Watching the birds and insects
Who seem to have no care

Take time to enjoy the world outside
Appreciate each breath
Because in the race of life
First place is only death
