Poem -

Raised by me

Raised by me

You left me to do it on my own
I was scared thinking how could I offer him
A stable home
Without you there to teach him the things
That dads usually do
I know one day he’s going to ask questions
About you.

You walk out time and time again
Yet it’s never your fault
There’s always someone else to blame
Different kids, different mums
Yet you never hold yourself accountable
You just run
Forgetting the fact that you have a son.

You told me to get rid
When you realised you weren’t ready to have the emotional burden of another kid
The same day we saw his heartbeat for the first time
You turned your back on us two
And for that I’ll never forgive you.

Our son will turn out to be a better man than you will ever be
And that’s because he’s being raised by me.
