The rogue

upon candy shores we ride the horse
That in knighthood we dreamed we would
the prince has came and the dragon slain
paper scales and lances made of wood
I weft my hands like wizards ones
weaving souls into magic light and snares
traps laid out for the reckless lout
who imagined this war would be fair
Who lived his life so lacking strife
until he picked up the sword
and in his dreams his muscles bring
doom to that heathen horde
until a fist connects with his jaw
and the laws of this earth we are wrapped in
come crashing down as he's trapped in
the rubble of his joyous structure
a vision of a hero ruptured
like the vessel in his eye
and the boy dropped his cloak and dagger
His charming poetic lies
the rogue in him snuck off
disappeared into the night
the rogue set things right
and returned an accountant
and by all accounts it
is a good thing those checks are balanced
he lives a life without malice
or passion or joy and desire
until the hallows eve sets fire
and his cape swirls once more
on ballasts does he soar
dreams wild with a smile
debonair to the core
alas
that rogue in him snuck off
disappeared into the night
the rogue set things right
and returned an accountant
in grey blazer and fitted vest with the rest sized just right
and packs himself down the seams
we play dress-up
to avoid the awkward situation where we fess up
that these costumes were our dreams
and that we messed up
by only wearing them on halloween
