Scruff

Scruff

Alfie was a scruffy mutt
From an unknown family
A bit of this, a bit of that
He had no pedigree
 -
But what Alfie had, much more than most
Was a sense of loyalty,
He’d protect the front, and guard the back
Then watch you eat your tea
 -
He only had one eye now
The result of a very bad day,
As a puppy playing in the garden
He got bored and thought he’d stray
 -
The beep of a horn, the screech of tyres
His little world went black,
He woke up to a sobbing child
So grateful he was back
 -
Alfie knew he was a red bloodied male
So as soon as he left the gate
With an eager eye he would search the park
To find the perfect mate
 -
The weeks went by, people saw his eye
And pulled their dogs away
But he had a good heart, and one day in the park
Another mongrel came over to play
 -
Alfie knew deep down, he had found the one
And barked at his master to say-
She’s on her own can we take her home?
And this will be the best ever day
 -
An abandoned dog, a friend for Alfie
He knew his decision was right,
He looked at the dog, it started to rain
So he took her in for the night…
 -
Now Alfie and Lucky, so happy together
Running and playing all day
But not far behind, three puppies just like them
Shows that their love did find a way

Dear John,

My Scruff one day went roaming
A car came careening by
His Doctor was able to save him
But he lost one of his eyes

.
When others saw his sad plight
They'd not let their doggies play
But then there came another mongrel
On his very lucky day

.
She told him that she loved him
He said "I love you too"
She came home with us to live then
And our lovely family grew

Love,
Larry xxx
