Seagulls

Seagulls

We flew to Africa where the weather was warm,
down below we could see turmoil, eye of a storm,
ice melting, glaciers moving, human folly not improving,
just because we travelled, not always escape by leaving.

Not like the old days where mystery was guaranteed,
now the world is punctuated, hurt by Putin's greed,
being eaten away by China's bugs, maybe lab rats,
or to think we could have been destroyed by silly bats.

Fortunately, us birds don't need petrol or nasty vitriol,
of course, there is a hierarchy but we manage it all,
we have our pecking order as we fly over a new border,
but we're unstoppable, so let no bird be put asunder.

We approached our destination, not the aspiration of fools,
blue specks down below, turned out to be swimming pools.
