A Seed Planted

It seems like yesterday, when the earth was rich and the soil filled my hands with magic
I spread the seed and planted each one, row by row, they needed room to grow
My native feet, would walk the path and pound the ground to cover the seedlings
The many tribes were doing the same, each Spring we would pray for rain, and dance
The dance of life, the gift from the sky, hoping for the moist wet puddles to drain into roots
Beneath each layer of clay, the corn would find a place and time to perk and crackle as it would grow
The fruit trees would begin to bud, the blossoms of love from the spirits of natures kiss
From one mountain side to the other, the valleys green, and the pastures full of new calves
As the mother Buffalo would nurture the kin, and we too, would build a new family
For the seed not only planted in the earth, but in the womb of the mother, it was bliss
Let the earth rise in the sun, let the trees open up to the leaves, and the forests smell of fresh pine
May the deer have the twin fawns lay in the light and warmth of the yellow god of magic
And may we grow together in centuries to come, one nation, then two, then three
For we are proud Cherokee and we have planted our souls into the earth and into the waters of time
We give thanks to the mother nature of a new life, a Spring beginning to give birth
