Poem -

She tries her key

She tries her key

He stands upon the pedestal

Looking down to ground

The application’s handed out

By a woman, walking ‘round

--

She comes up to the pedestal

Distributing to those

Who stand above, above the crowd

Ambivalent repose

--

Water falls on application

Soaking top-right side

He completes it, nonetheless

And walks past her, beside

--

To hotel door, he turns the key

At first it will not work

His patience lost, a moment’s cry

A feeling turns berserk

--

She strolls on by and asks

If anything is wrong

The man turning the key in latch

Mumbles melancholic song

--

She tries her key, not twice, just once

It works the first time ‘round

He feels hallucination strike

He almost hits the ground

--

The ground’s as hard as concrete

Like opening that door

He longs to be inside the room

To fall down on the floor

--

You haven’t registered, she says

Your application isn’t signed

Your key has not been activated

Here, she says, have mine

--

Follow me, I’ll show you

How to activate it now

Hurry, there’s no time to waste

Stop strolling, lose that scowl

--

He comes, she goes, knowing

She’ll walk through his open door

Leaving her activated key

Hiding in the floor

--

He turns his head

To left, then right,

She’s lost to him

She’s out of sight

He drags his feet

I want to meet her

Here, later tonight

--

In my arms, I hold you

In my bed you stay

Warm me in and outside

May you always be this way

--

She turns the key

He thought she’d left

For him to use at will

Am I the luckiest man alive

Pray it stay like this until...
