Shuddering Skies

Shuddering Skies

The scarecrow hangs
On a gallow framed prejudice
Nailed by crooked hands
A scapegoat will fall
In the absence of all that's free
For there rests, a magistrate
For arbitrary trials
To arrogate the culprit
And the biased abide
By the impetuous pulse of severity

Cursed will be the executioner
And haunted; the ground
On which the guillotine has been built
When the blood of iniquity has sprung
From the trammeled life of innocence
The sympathetic will sigh
And the ravens will croak
To the sound of shuddering skies
As the pelting rain reverberates
The bedlam of a descending soul

Sadistic are the ones
Who saunter to caress
The weeping wound of revelry
That crimson smear across the dress
With frenzied eyes demented
For the fever of their lust
The aphrodisiac is the stain of sorrow
To quench their perverted thirst
But now the night is over
And a perennial one looms closer

Dragged to the scaffold
Hair clasped and pruned
As the neck aligns the lunette
And the flesh; the bascule
May this spell thrum amongst
The tumultuous crowd
And when the pendant has dropped
May vengeance be found

In the abyss, the chains unravel
To unleash the one who outlives
The allegation and gavel
Eye to eye, awaken to recognise
The disembodied have no grave
But a grudge, you bear witness
Face to face as you dieΒ
