Sonnet on the Tyne

Sonnet on the Tyne

Those bridges hold my heart, I know I'm home.
Away and back again, they make me smile
Standing firm, let us stay a little while
Over the eye just to stand there and gasp
All sights and sounds never dull, never lasp
Bustling down below, life is in reach
Wander along the quay, all will beseech
Skies were once filled with the dirtiest soot
Lights now dancing upon each geordie foot
Friendliest folk, they will give up their last,
All culture found in its historic past
The revellers find delight in each Street
The Tyne it grooves to it's own flowing beat
Those wondrous bridges they are our own
No matter how far they still feel like home

Lorna, superb writing and rhyme combined and yes, wonderful to read and good memories flooding back.
Visited many years ago with good friends in Gateshead, good times.
You write beautifully and a properly constructed sonnet with ten syllables per line not just a hacked out rush job that anyone can do, but a sonnet from clearly your heart that demonstrates what a talent you are.
Full honours and thanks Lorna for sharing and the time and effort that demonstrates good writing poetically pays off :)

I Shaun, thank you so much. I really appreciate your words, I love writing a sonnet, I enjoy working around the pentameter, it feels like more of a challenge if that makes sense..
I'm not far from gateshead,Β I love this area, but I'm bias as I'm a geordie hahaha
hope you are well

A most eloquent piece, delightful rhyme and marvellous imagery I was quite enthralled to read this finding it quite emotional. It also reminded me of a song from the sixties "Ferry across the Mersey" and also of my own hometown on the south coast and London where i lived for some time.
