Stars

Stars

I raise my glass to you
My shining stars
My companions of the night

Gazing over me during the night time
Shining in the abyss of space

Even though you were here before I was
Even though you will be here long after I'm gone
I can see your beauty and your wisdom
Lashing out evermore

No one to see you
No one to praise your survival, to congratulate you
Lonely for all eternity
Unless you're intertwined with another star or three
Dancing in the lonely places

Born from fire and dust
A cloud of passion converging in on itself
And when your time is up
Becoming even crazier space dust
Or a roaring black hole
Ripping apart the very fabric of time and space
Raging against the universe
Saying "Look at me! This is what you made me! Why me?"

But I see you
I know you
And I just want you to know
You are a star in your own right
You are unique
There will never be another one like you
Not in your lifetime

I see you
I know you
And I just want you know
I'm sorry to see you go
