A survivor’s place.

I watch the children as they come in.
Their eyes are filled with fright
I want to comfort all of them.
And protect them from the night.
Their mothers seem so distant.
As they stare off far a way
Praying that they are finally safe.
And that their abusers will eventually pay.
I’ve seen the bumps and bruises.
And a lot of broken bones.
I have seen them stripped of all their pride.
And of everything they own.
But this place, it has a magic.
As all who come here know
They come here with nothing.
Then love begins to grow.
The children play together.
The mothers make real friends.
They laugh and heal together.
Hoping the time won’t end
But sooner or later they must leave.
And go off on their own.
Knowing their lives are more enriched.
With the friendships they have grown.

Lisa Zych,
The poem is of high importance with regard to the child abuses happening around the world. This needs to be stopped at any cost. I specially mark my applause for selecting this theme. Great. Congrats and thanks for sharing. Any attempt, attitude or behavior which interferes with a child’s mental health or social development needs to be punished.  This includes yelling, screaming, name-calling, shaming, negative comparisons to others, telling them they are “bad, no good, worthless” or “a mistake.” It also includes the failure to provide the affection and support necessary for the development of a child’s emotional, social, physical and intellectual well-being. This includes ignoring, lack of appropriate physical affection (hugs), not saying “I love you,” withdrawal of attention, lack of praise and lack of positive reinforcement etc.Â
Good write, Regards and love to all mothers and their children
